Call for papers: Design is a challenging and comprehensive human activity where new products and systems need to be created in response to various users’ ever-changing demands for improved experiences and new functions while reflecting technical and socio-cultural situations. Thus designers’ creativity is essential in design activities. While creativity in general has been a subject of study in many disciplines including cognitive psychology and education, more specific study on creativity relevant to design and designers has been at the leading front end in creativity understanding. Also the nature of design would bring in viewpoints on creativity that might not be addressed in more general creativity research. Thus, we are interested in design creativity as a specific area of creativity and cognition. The workshop will include an invited presentation to bring external stimulus on the workshop. Papers up to 6 pages will be accepted for presentation based on the reviews of the program committee. Topics and issues of interest include, but are not limited to: creative design and design creativity, characteristics of creative thinking in design, cognitive and computational models of design creativity, collaboration and design creativity, bio-inspired creative design, taxonomy of design creativity, tools for creative design, and design creativity education. This workshop is sponsored by SIG - Design Creativity of the Design Society. Workshop aim: The goal of the workshop is to create a forum for researchers who are interested in design creativity to discuss both general and specific issues related to perspectives, concepts, approaches, models, and supporting tools for design creativity. Based on the success of the first Design Creativity Workshop held in June 2007, in this workshop we intend to broaden the participation and topics of discussion. |
